Using the Library and Finding the Law 2025

Printing/Copying/Scanning

NYLS utilizes PaperCut, a student printing platform of printers for networked printing, copying and scanning. You can send a print job from your laptop, phone or tablet.  You then release your print job from any of the four  printers on campus.

  • Download and install the PaperCut app to your laptop, tablet or phone
  • Send the print job and select the Student_Print driver.
  • Proceed to one of the printers
  • Swipe your OneCard or log in with your network name and password to release and print your job(s).

OneCard - Print Fund

Copying and printing are each $.10 per page.  A double-sided copy or print is considered one page, so you will save money and paper by choosing this option. Scanning is free

At the beginning of each semester, you will receive a credit of $10 on your OneCard to be used for printing and copying.

The OneCard system does not allow you to deposit funds to your “Print/Copy Fund.” But when this fund runs out, the system looks to your “FlexFund” Account to cover printing/copying charges.  Use the Account Management Center AMC located on the lst floor next to the coffee bar to add additional funds to your OneCard Flex Fund or online  through the NYLS portal.  Select the OneCard icon (left column of the portal homepage).

Please contact Business Operations (email: onecard@nyls.edu) if there is a problem with your Print Fund balance.

Link your OneCard to your PaperCut Account

The first time you use the printer, you must register your OneCard in the network system.  This can be done at any networked printer on campus.  You need not send a print job before you do it.

Swipe your OneCard through the OneCard reader. You'll get a prompt to register your Onecard with the system.

  • Touch the Username field to open the keyboard.  Enter your user name (e.g. flast25) and password (case sensitive) and then touch Log in.
  • Once you’ve registered this way, your card will be recognized at every networked  printer on campus.
  • If you've left your OneCard at home, you can log into any printer with your user name and password and release your print job.
  • If you're unable to connect your account, please contact OIT (Room C108; email: helpdesk@nyls.edu ; 212-431-2316)

Troubleshooting Common Issues

Print Job Not Appearing

I sent a print job but it isn’t showing up when I’m logged in
Make sure that you are on the NYLS-WiFi network and have selected the Student_Print driver.

Wait time
Jobs may take several minutes to appear in the queue, depending on how many jobs are ahead of it.

How long will jobs be available?
You will have 24 hours after sending your job to retrieve it.

Login Credentials/Authentication

Log in with your user name (e.g. flast25) and password (case sensitive)

Password rejected
Use only your user name (e.g. flast25) and password (case sensitive).

Account locked
Contact the OIT Helpdesk if you've exceeded login attempts. An account will unlock itself after 20 minutes

Hold for Authentication
On macOS, clearing the keychain can resolve Hold for Authentication errors.

One Card
How much does it cost to print a document?
$.10 per page (Black & White). Scanning is free

I know I have money in my Print Fund. When I swiped my card at the printer, it said there were no funds available.
When this happens, try swiping your card more slowly through the card reader.

I've used up my funds in the Print Fund. How do I add funds to my OneCard?
When there's no more money in the print fund, the system looks to your FlexFund Account to cover printing, copying, purchasing vending machine items, and Cafe Express charges. Use the Account Management Center AMC located on the first floor next to the coffee bar to add additional funds to your OneCard Flex Fund or online through the NYLS portal.  Select the OneCard icon (left column of the portal homepage).

There's a problem with my OneCard Print fund balance
Please contact Business Operations (email: onecard@nyls.edu) if there is a problem with your Print Fund balance. Please also include your bar code number on the back of your OneCard.

Other Printing Issues
How can I print if I don't have the PaperCut driver installed to my laptop?
You can upload your MS Office, PDF or graphics files by logging into your dashboard and uploading your file to Web Print.
Can I send a job from outside NYLS to a campus printer?
Yes, by emailing a PDF from your Outlook account to nylsuniprint@nyls.edu.
Double-Sided Printing
Double-sided (duplex) printing is enabled by default to save paper. To print single-sided: Change settings in the print dialog under Layout or Finishing.

Is there a way to print directly to a printer?
You can load your document onto a USB type A drive. The Library Circulation Desk has USB flash drives and USB A & USB C adapters. If you don't have access to a USB adapter, you can log into your email at one of the Mendik Library’s public terminals, then copy your file onto the USB drive. The USB type A drive plugs into the side of the printer, then you can browse your file and print it.

I just sent a bar application to print, but it didn't go through
Any documents containing personally identifiable information (PIP) may bounce back.  PIP includes:
•    Social Security Number (SSN)
•    Driver’s license
•    Passport information
•    Financial information
•    Medical records
The workaround for this is load your document onto a USB flash drive and plug it into a printer.

I want to print on my own paper or special media
•    Open the Bypass Tray, located on the right side of the printer
•    Load your paper into the Bypass Tray. With the side to be printed on facing down, insert the paper into the feed slot.
•    When printing on letterhead (paper where company names, preset text, and other text or images are already printed), load it with the print side facing up.
•    Send your print job
•    Remove any remaining special paper, and close the Bypass Tray door.

Where can I print out a document in color?
The FedEx Office Print & Ship, 335 Broadway (Worth St.) offers color printing.

Print Quality Issues

  • Faded prints: Report low toner to the Library Circulation desk
  • Paper jams: Follow on-screen instructions or contact the Library Circulation desk
  • Wrong paper size: Check your document's page setup before printing

I'm having problems with my print job, where can get help?
If you're having issues printing, please stop by the Circulation Desk during Library hours. Otherwise contact the Office of Information Technology (Room C108; email: helpdesk@nyls.edu; 212-431-2316).
