Each Legal Practice student is required to take three Research Skills Workshops (RSW) in the Fall semester. These RSW classes will be taught by the Mendik Library staff, a team of law librarians and professors with extensive experience in teaching both fundamental and advanced legal research skills to students.
Out of Class RSW
Two RSWs (Jurisdiction & Authority and Secondary Sources) will be scheduled outside of regular LP class time, including evenings and weekends. You must sign up for and attend one of the Jurisdiction & Authority RSW and one of the Secondary Sources RSW.
RSW Make-Up Sessions Have Been Scheduled:
Essentials of Electronic Legal Research (EELR) I
EELR I will be the third, and final, RSW of the semester and will be taught during one of your regularly scheduled LP classes. Since it is being held during LP, there is no advance registration for EELR I. Your LP syllabus will give you the date EELR I will be taught.
Advance Registration for the Out of Class RSW is Required - Use the calendar, below, to register.
Sign up for times that do not pose conflicts with your other NYLS obligations. Do not wait until the last minute to sign up.
The out of class RSW will be held over Zoom.
After registering you will receive a confirmation email containing the class Zoom link.
An example of the confirmation email is shown below the calendar.
Then, 24 hours before the scheduled start of the class, you will get a reminder email which will contain another copy of the Zoom link. If you register for RSW less than 24 hours before the start time (which is not a problem), you will only get the confirmation email (not the reminder)
