As a private institution, New York Law School is not open to the public. While you are welcome to all the information available on our website, our reference services are restricted to the members of the law school community.
If you are looking for attorneys or legal assistance, the New York Public Library has put together a list of resources on a page called “Lawyer Referral & Legal Aid Services.” And, the New York Courts also have put together a statewide list of resources to find legal help. You may find some useful information on either website. The New York State Unified Court System website provides a list of law libraries in the state. The librarians there may be able to help get you started with your research needs. Telephone numbers are also listed so that you can call ahead to verify their hours and requirements for using their facilities. In addition, the New York Public Library provides some resources to research legal issues that may arise in either the state or the city of New York through the Science Industry and Business Library. SIBL has a selective law library that contains essentials for New York legal research as well as some federal materials. SIBL does not provide access to LexisNexis or Westlaw. If you are only looking for information on a particular legal topic, you may want to check the Nolo website. Nolo is a publisher that produces legal resources more easily accessible to non-lawyers on a number of topics. A number of public libraries and bookstores also may carry similar types of books.
