Welcome to LLM Tax Students

Welcome to incoming LLM in Taxation students!   I look forward to meeting you and acquainting you with some of the services, facilities, resources and librarians at the Mendik Law Library.  Many of our services are available both onsite and offsite.  We have a fine tax collection, and I hope you will take the opportunity to use it while you are here.

In addition to many print resources and excellent tax services on Lexis and Westlaw, we also have access to other outstanding electronic services:  CCH Intelliconnect for tax and business research, Checkpoint, BNA Tax Management Library (including BNA tax portfolios), and the Tax Analysts family of publications including Tax Notes, State Tax Notes and Worldwide Tax Daily.

Today at orientation entering LLM students will learn how to

  • Find books and other materials in the physical  Library
  • Use the Tax Research Resources at NYLS Research Guide
  • Learn how to  access a variety of specialized electronic tax sources from home
  • Learn how to register for daily tax news by email

After you leave today’s session there are several things you should do as soon as possible to insure that you have access to library and information resources:

·         Register your Lexis and Westlaw activation codes / passwords.

·         Email your customized Lexis & Westlaw passwords to yourself and keep that email in an easily accessible folder.  Caution—Students do forget their own custom passwords.

·         Stop by the Library Circulation Desk ASAP to be sure that you are in the system and may check out books and access electronic tax subscriptions from home.  You may call them at 212 431 2333 to check this information.

·         Sign up to receive Tax Notes Today and other tax news services by email.

Lexis or Westlaw problems

If you have problems with Lexis or Westlaw you may want to contact the account representatives who work with New York Law School.  You may reach them by email.
